REPORTED SPEECH

      
1.DIRECT SPEECH=QUOTED SPEECH –( KALIMAT LANGSUNG):TIDAK MENGALAMI PERUBAHAN APAPUN
2.INDIRECT SPEECH=REPORTED SPEECH-(KALIMAT TAK LANGSUNG): MENGUTIP UCAPAN SESEORANGmengulang kembali.
NOTE:
·        Tanda baca hilang(:,”...........”)

·        Dalam kalimat pernyataan ditambahkan kata sambung”THAT”(bahwa)

·        Bila kalimat yang melaporkan dalm bentuk PAST(SAID,TOLD )Kalimat yang dilaporkan akan mengalami perubahan tenses.
Contoh:
1.Present – Past                 Mr.Bams told me:”I send  a letter to my wife.”
                                                Mr .Bams told me that He sent a letter to his wife
                                                                       
2.Past – past perfect         Bintang told to me : ” I saw you in the mall Yesterday.
                                                Bintang told to me that He had seen me in the supermarket the day before.

·        Beberapa perubahan keterangan waktu:
Yesterday – the day before
Last night  -The night before
Tommorow – The following day

Menggunakan ASK IF (YES/NO QUESTION-kalimat Tanya) BENTUK Direct to Indirect Speech

Ask, NOT say or tell, is used to report yes/no question
Yes/No question                                                 Noun Clause

Sam said to me,  ”are you hungry?”    a. Sam asked me If I was hungry
Sam said to Jane, ”are you hungry? “  b. Sam asked Jane If she was hungry


c. INCORRECT : Sam asked me that I was hungry
If, NOT That, is used after ask to introduced a Noun clause

d. Sam asked me If I was hungry
e. Sam asked me whether I was hungry

Whether has the same meaning as IF
f. Sam asked  if I was hungry
The (pro)noun object may be omitted after ask.
g.Sam wanted to know If I was hungry
h.Sam wondered if I was hungry
In addition to Ask,yes no question can be reported by using wanted to know or wonder
